Discovering into the MAR-Regional Archaeological Museum also means finding out about what lies beneath it. Indeed, the Regional Archaeological Museum stands on the remains of the monumental Porta Principalis Sinistra, or rather the northern gate to Roman Aosta, including a portion of the northern sector of the walls, as well as the remains of a large public warehouse with its various rooms and of a structure probably used for games and sport, bordering the forum complex. An archaeological site in the true sense of the phrase, therefore, made from the overlapping of walls, passages and openings: traces of different ages sitting on top of, erasing, and replacing one another. Labyrinths of ancient structures and memories for a journey back in time through the depths of Aosta.
