The original roof of the chapel on the first floor was built in the 13th century and subsequently dismantled and repositioned facing the opposite direction when the vault was erected. Only two of its beams remain, among the few examples of a painted wooden roof in Aosta Valley. Dendrochronology, the study of the growth rings of a tree, has allowed us to pinpoint 1249-1250 as the moment the fir trees used to produce the decorated beams were cut down. On the three wooden faces still visible we can see lively geometric and plant motifs, as well as eagles and lions, following decorative patterns which bring to mind the precious fabrics of the East.
