In the large park surrounding Savoy Castle there are other buildings which were originally guest lodgings, houses for the guards and gardeners, or simply warehouses. Among these there is also an edifice which was once the garage for Queen Margherita’s cars which, has now been restored and set up as the location of a new naturalistic exhibition space. This garage is a true treasure, showing the queen’s passion for cars, not only as a passenger but also as a driver. She owned several, for getting around both the city and the countryside. From official cars to her omnibus equipped with a bed, Margherita chose the vehicles for the Royal House personally, with a preference for all things Italian. Her passion for beautiful cars was so famous that even Bertrame, the illustrator of the extremely well-known covers of “Domenica”, loved to depict the dynamic queen as she escaped from some sort of breakdown or crash.
