Visitors are observed by some faces in the room. They are the portraits of the owners of the castle, members of the Sarriod de La Tour family, a dynasty which for several centuries provided members of the clergy and local administrators of the Duchy of Aosta. Among these we can see the smiling face of Jean-Gaspard, painted by Giovanna Battista Buzano Clemente, known as “La Clementina”. It was 1733 and la Clementina was a highly respected painter: Martin van Meytens, official portraitist to the Court of Vienna, was her teacher and from him she acquired her attention to detail and ability to use light to highlight specific elements of textiles and hair. Other portraits by the same artist were on show in the castles of Aymavilles and Sarre.
