There are 720 coins on display, whose origins range from Celtic (376), pre-Roman from Northern Italy, Greek, Italic peoples, Roman, Byzantine, Medieval and Savoy: just a small part of the precious bequest donated in 1989 to the Valle d’Aosta Region by the widow of the Piedmontese numismatist Andrea Pautasso. The selected coins span a period of time of 2400 years and this precious historical-archaeological evidence gives us concrete proof of the evolution of the shapes of coins, and of trade routes, as well as providing important information of a technical, artistic and iconographic nature.
