At the MAR-Regional Archaeological Museum visitors are taken on a journey along a timeline which develops over 14 rooms of the ground floor of the former “Challant” Barracks, as well as an absolutely fascinating underground itinerary. The exhibition is organised thematically and chronologically and, starting from the Mesolithic (7000-6000 BCE), winds its way through to the grave goods from the 13th-14th century found in the parish church of Courmayeur. The Roman era is without a doubt the star of the show, with a large 1:200 scale model of Augusta Prætoria; from the Romanization of the region to the road system and from the evidence ranging from epigraphs to objects relating to worship, statuary and everyday life, the MAR allows visitors to immerse themselves in the life of ancient Roman Aosta. A captivating journey through time which ends with the finds pertaining to the Christian Middle Ages.
