The summer of 1969 proved to be not just any old summer. Indeed, if the whole world was to be stunned in July by the first steps humankind would take on the moon, in June in the western suburbs of Aosta archaeologists stepped into the distant world of Prehistory.
From the excavations initiated before the construction of some blocks of flats, many unique stones were to emerge whose dimensions, cut, working and decoration made it easy to understand immediately the archaeological importance of the site. Within a short space of time systematic research was begun, with annual digs, carried out for over twenty years and then recently recommenced with micro-excavation surveys. The need to protect such evidence, leaving it in its place to conserve and give value to the whole zone led, after a complex planning process, to the realisation of a futuristic covered archaeological park which could respect, and indeed highlight, the unique attributes of this extraordinary area.
