The east-facing side of the castle on the fortified enclosure facing the Ayas Valley. The top of the building is marked by machicolations, strategic openings used for defensive purposes, supported by corbels. The sheltered walkway, inaccessible for safety reasons, displays thirteen merlons on each side of the ramparts, along with twelve embrasures. This sort of crown running along the outside of the castle was the product of the restoration works carried out in the early 20th century but, judging from photographs and surveys, it faithfully recaptures the original structure. It is the only part of the castle built using bricks.
