The focus in the attic is on the history of the castle, told through wooden models and films on a large screen. In this space it is easy to recognise the 15th century structure, with four circular towers grafted onto the corners of the original donjon. The remains of the merlons can also be made out, as can the corbels – the brackets supporting the protruding parts of the towers –, some machicolations and some windows with lateral seats. The extraordinary wooden roof, dating from the Late Middle Ages, is still in excellent condition and consists of over 360 parts. Dendrochronological analyses – which work out the age of wood by counting the annual growth rings of trees – have established the moment the tree was cut down, and thus the construction of the roof, as being between 1454 and 1456.
