The Royal Castle of Sarre holds a significant collection of works of dynastic iconography, collected above all at the behest of Umberto II and reflecting his interests as a collector, focusing on the iconography and history of the House of Savoy. The residence, which remained property of the Royal House despite the fall of the monarchy, was one of the locations the last King of Italy chose to house his growing collections of paintings and prints. In the castle there are two main collections: a series of dynastic portraits, mostly on display in the area which opens up on the ground floor, and a collection of lithographs and prints partly visible in the Cabinet des Estampes.
