The Saint-Martin-de-Corléans site has given us many exceptionally important artefacts from Roman times. Located well outside the walls of Augusta Prætoria, it was in the countryside and featured, during the Augustan Age (late 1st century BCE – early 1st century CE), a road heading towards the Little St Bernard Pass, a rustic building, and several clusters of burial sites. Through numerous finds there the aforementioned building, which is thought to have been used for both residential and agricultural purposes, tells the tale of daily life in the country throughout the whole period of the Roman Empire. In addition, the various graves discovered in the area have given us some of the most beautiful sets of grave goods from Roman times ever found in Aosta.
