Aosta Valley,
where cultures meet
Aosta Valley, a region in the heart of the Alps through which peoples, languages, goods and traditions have passed since prehistoric times, meeting and overlapping. A rich cultural heritage has developed here over the course of millennia, beginning in protohistory, passing through Roman times and the Middle Ages, and arriving in the present day.
From the majestic megalithic constructions to the mysterious rock engravings; from the elusive Salassi to the splendid colony of Augusta Praetoria, the Aosta Valley still bears evident signs today of the most distant ages.
A borderland full of Late-Antiquity backdrops, enriched in the Middle Ages with castles, towers and bell towers, and where the refined artistic expressions from the Renaissance through to the Baroque period absorbed manifold impulses and ideas.
